Fragrance Genie Privacy Policy

Fragrance Genie ("we", "us", or "our") is an iOS app that helps you discover fragrances you’ll love. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

We only collect the minimum information needed to provide the core functionality of the app.

1.1 Account Information

• Email address – used to create and log in to your account.
• Password – used for authentication. Passwords are stored securely (hashed) by our backend provider.

1.2 In-App Preferences & Activity

To give you personalized recommendations and let you save fragrances, we store:

• Your quiz answers (e.g., preferred scent families, budget, how you want to feel).
• Fragrances you view, save, or favorite in the app.
• Basic interaction data related to your recommendations (e.g., which results you open).

We do not collect sensitive categories of personal data, location data, your contacts, or any health/financial information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• To provide core app functionality – account creation, login, and secure access to your data.
• To personalize recommendations – using your quiz answers and saved fragrances.
• To save your history – so you can revisit past recommendations and favorites.
• To maintain and improve the app – including debugging and preventing abuse.

We do not sell your personal information and we do not use your data for advertising or cross-app tracking.

3. Data Storage and Third-Party Services

Fragrance Genie uses Supabase as its backend service for authentication and data storage. Your email, hashed password, quiz answers, and saved fragrances are stored securely in Supabase-hosted databases.

Supabase acts as a data processor on our behalf. For more information about their practices, you can refer to Supabase’s own privacy and security documentation.

4. Legal Basis (If You Are in the EU/EEA or UK)

If applicable under your local law, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:

• Contract – to create and manage your account and provide the app’s core features.
• Legitimate interests – to maintain and improve the app, prevent abuse, and keep our services secure.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your Fragrance Genie account is active or as needed to provide you with the service.

If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, subject to any legal obligations we may have to retain certain information.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have some or all of the following rights:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
• Object to or restrict certain types of processing, where applicable.

7. Children's Privacy

Fragrance Genie is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including using secure connections (HTTPS) and relying on Supabase for secure authentication and data storage.

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Transfers

Our backend infrastructure (Supabase) may store and process data on servers located in countries other than your own. By using the app, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those countries. We rely on service providers that implement appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of Fragrance Genie after any changes means you accept the updated Policy.
